# Plan: ISCE2 Higher Resolution InSAR — Feasibility Assessment ## Context Currently processing LiCSAR data at ~100m resolution. Exploring whether ISCE2 processing from raw SLC data could deliver ~20m resolution for more granular per-property subsidence reports. ## Recommendation: Do NOT switch now. Revisit after MVP validation. ### Why not now: 1. **100m is sufficient for MVP validation.** Clay subsidence bowls are 50-200m across. 100m detects them. 2. **ISCE2 requires Linux** (WSL2), 2-3 TB downloads per track, 8-15 TB working disk, 1-2 weeks compute for one track. Current hardware can't support this alongside ongoing work. 3. **Different software stack** — ISCE2 + MintPy replaces LiCSBAS. Would need to rewrite extract_insar.py, decompose.py, and the pipeline's data loading to work with MintPy HDF5 format. 4. **The coherence gate hasn't passed yet.** If 100m data shows poor coherence, 20m data will be worse (less averaging = more noise). 5. **No revenue yet.** Spending weeks on ISCE2 before selling a single report is premature optimisation. ### When to revisit: - After MVP sells first 10 reports and loss adjusters provide feedback - If customers specifically request finer resolution - If a competitor launches a similar product at higher resolution - For a "premium tier" product at £400-500 ### Middle ground (if resolution becomes an issue): - **ASF HyP3** offers free cloud-processed interferograms at ~80m (vs our 100m). Could be a quick upgrade path requiring minimal code changes — just a different data ingestion module. ## No code changes required.
